Fridays are for fun and knitting, so join us for FREE KAL NIGHTS!!! Every month we choose a different project to knit together as a community (without an instructor). Grab a friend or make one here. You can bring snacks or BYOW . We just ask that you buy your materials from us in order to keep this EVENT FREE.
For August, the group is making 2 different shawls. It is your choice. One is a MYSTERY shawl by Casapinka named Sharon Air and the other is The Frank Shawl by Joji Locatelli.
Sharon Air is designed by Casapinka. This is a MKAL (a mystery knit along). No one knows what the final pattern looks like. The designer only releases a little bit of the pattern at a time as “clues”. We have had lots of fun doing her MKALs in the shop before. The patterns are very well written because her cat, Sharon From Security, writes them. She can be very snarky but leads us on a very fun adventure every time. At this point we know we need 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn and a US 6 circular needle. The 1st clue is not released until August 12th but the “schematic” is available now. So come on the 5th to pick your colours and the following Friday you can begin the pattern. This pattern continues into September for a total of 6 weeks of clues.
If you prefer to know what your project will look like first we have The Frank Shawl. The Frank Shawl is another beautiful shawl created by Joji Locatelli. This design was inspired by the work of Frank Stella and is a study of geometry using multiple triangles to create a giant rectangular shawl measuring 97"x39". You will knit the first 3 triangles separately and join them together when you knit the fourth. You will need a size US 5 needle and 4 skeins each of 4 different colours of fingering weight yarn. You will use every last yard of Colour 1 , so if you knit loosely or if you do not want to play yarn chicken please buy an extra skein. This is a FREE KAL!!! To keep this free, we ask that you buy your materials from the shop. We also have a Zoom attendance option as well. Buy your supplies from us and let us know it is for the Frank Shawl and we will send you the link.
