Ready to build on the basics of knitting? In our Intro to Knitting class with Mindy, you'll strengthen your foundational skills while gaining confidence in reading and correcting your own work. You'll learn how to cast on, knit, work in garter stitch, fix simple mistakes using TINK ("unknitting"), identify and correct common knitting errors, and cast off to finish your project. You'll also receive helpful tips and tricks to improve your knitting speed, comfort, and ergonomics.
We'll begin by creating a basic garter stitch square before choosing one of the following beginner-friendly projects:
-Beginner's Stitch Sampler Scarf by Kristina Tucker
-Triangle Garter Shawl (Shawl We Share) by Donnie Herrington
-Grandma's Favorite Dishcloth by Kristen Mangus
Supplies:
1-2 skeins of Worsted yarn
US 7-9 (4.5-5.5mm) knitting needles
NOTE: Yarn for the class must be purchased at The Altered Stitch. Please, come early to pick your materials and have them wound before class begins. You are more than welcome to come any day before the class. Any of the staff will be more than happy to help you with your yarn choices and get you prepared for class at your convenience.
